These type of Dyestuffs are mainly applied by under given two methods:
A. Metachrome Method :
It is possible to dye many types of Chrome dyes in a single bath i.e. combining mordanting & dyeing. The most essential requirement is to ensure proper dye bath exhaustion at ph 6 - 8.5 and also the dye has to be compatible with metachrome mordant.
Metachrome Mordant is made as under:
1part of sodium chromate
2 parts of ammonium sulphate
The dye bath is set with :
3-8% Metachrome Mordant (depending upon depth of the shade)
Note : Mostly light and medium shades are dyed with this process.
B. After Chrome Method
This is a two step process, the dye bath is set with:
Step 1. 5-10% G. Salt
X% Acetic Acid (ph 4-5)
Y% Levelling Agent
The dyeing is continued in this bath till complete exhaustion
Step 2. After complete exhaustion in step 1 the dye bath is cooled to 70 degree centigrade. Then 0.25 to 2.5% potassium dichromate (usually half the quantity of dye stuff) well dissolved in water is added to the dye bath and the dye bath is raised to boil once again (gradually @ 1 degree centigrade per minute). The dye bath is maintained at boil for 30-60 minutes inorder to completely reduce the chromate on the fibre.
